After the Rain

Well, I guess we dodged the snow. There was a break in the rain today, so we ran over to the Independence Trail to see what the extra water did to the waterfall. One thing it did was make the flumes do a rare bit of work:

There are more pictures after the break.

There was a good deal of water coming off the fall this morning.

When you use an old flume style for your switchbacks, the water does its own work.

I don't remember how much railing used to be around this spot, but it certainly used to be more stable. Wonder what it was like in the midst of the storm.

The roar was something to hear, but it was also nice to walk along the quieter, relaxing bits. Some of the moss and ferns nearly glowed.
